Module 2 • Management 3.3.6 International environment
South Africa is said to be at least six months behind developed countries in the case of clothing fashion, and up to a few years behind in respect of certain technological developments. This is why it is important to monitor the international environment. New trends or fashions can be detected early and give a business time to adapt. Fashion retailers in this country are frequent visitors to overseas fashion shows to acquire the newest designs and determine fabric colours and qualities. The government also tries to create favourable international business conditions for local businesses. This normally happens when senior politicians travel overseas and treaties are signed.

If you fail to do this, it will impede your leadership capabilities and could result in the failure of your business.
