Activity 2 (Contd) Obama’s inauguration, on the steps of the US Capitol which was partially built with slave labour, broke the highest racial barrier in the United States, and goes some way to reconciling Martin Luther King’s dream of racial unity. Obama vowed to reclaim America’s place at the head of global powers, and signaled he would reject anti-terror tactics used by the Bush administration which critics say have compromised US ideals and the constitution.
“We reject as false, the choice between our safety and our ideals,” Obama said. “We are ready to lead once more.”
Several estimates put the crowd on the Mall at two-million, and many in the throng wept as the new president spoke.

3. Personal management 3.1 The role of habits in a person
Our schedule often doesn’t differ much from day to day. People call it routine and then complain about the deadly routine of doing the same thing every day. But it would seem that most people prefer to do the same things day after day, because they don’t like change. Doing the same things repeatedly or in the same way, can also be called habits. Habits are consistent and often unconscious patterns of behaviour that express our character and determine our effectiveness.
Smoking, for example, is a habit and a bad one too. It is an addiction. Smokers will normally agree with this, and if they really want to, they can break the habit. Most of them will tell you that they don’t want to do this. The important message is that habits are learned behaviour and we can change our habits.
