Module 1 • Personal management SECTION SEVEN

My days are filled with “interruptions” that keep me from being as effective as I could be.

At any one moment, I am usually distracted by a number of different things running through my mind.

When I try to meet with an individual, our time together is often interrupted by phone calls or other people.

I work on a task for long hours at a time and feel tired and ineffective.

Section Seven Total: SECTION EIGHT

I am simply too busy to take time for personal development.

1 2 3 4 5 I regularly invest time and effort in personal development.

1. I feel that “personal” time is selfish. 1 2 3 4 5 I feel an investment in my own development will help me to be more effective as an employee, spouse, parent, civic leader, or community volunteer.

I feel overwhelmed and immobilized by all the things I feel I should do to improve.

I do some things for myself, but I don’t feel really “fulfilled” or “complete” as a person.

Section Eight Total: SECTION NINE

I feel that the time it takes to communicate with other people keeps me from accomplishing my goals and objectives in life.

I sometimes have to tell people what I want them to do several times before they do it.

I often wonder if people really mean what they say to me.

When I have interpersonal conflicts, I tend to get frustrated and blame others.

Section Nine Total:

1 2 3 4 5 I deeply value others, and want to understand their concerns and views, especially when they differ from mine.

1 2 3 4 5 I usually “check understanding” when I communicate with others and misunderstandings are caught early.

1 2 3 4 5 I earnestly try to understand the message being communicated by others, both verbally and through means other than words.

1 2 3 4 5 When disagreements occur, I assume there has been a miscommunication and work to remedy the situation.

1 2 3 4 5 I view improvement as a life-long process and I feel confident in my ability to integrate improvement into my lifestyle at a regular and peaceful pace.

1 2 3 4 5 I work to develop the “whole” person and set improvement goals in a wide range of areas.

1 2 3 4 5 I am able to set aside specific blocks of time on a regular basis to accomplish goals without interruption.

1 2 3 4 5 At any one moment, I concentrate fully on the experience at hand and enjoy what I am doing.

1 2 3 4 5 When I meet with an individual, that person has my undivided attention.

1 2 3 4 5 I divide my time into short productive segments and change tasks frequently.
