Module 1 • Personal management Schematic representation of how to integrate your mission with your daily life. Goals Roles
Scheduling Daily Priorities
Your roles and goals determine your priorities and appointments
Appointments
Or
The suggested method is to integrate all of this by means of a weekly planner. (See the example at the end of the module.) It means that you will have to sit down once a week to plan your week in advance. You must determine objectives for the next week.
• What would you like to achieve during that week? • Which areas need your attention? • How much time must be allocated for that? • What appointments and other matters such as meetings must also be included in this planner?
The biggest advantage of this method of planning is that it forces you to attend to all your different roles that are important but not urgent. It also provides you with a measuring tool to evaluate your activities of the previous week. This will give you an indication of how successful you were during that week. Remember that this planner goes beyond your role as a student or as future manager of your business. It involves all your other activities that are necessary to sharpen your saw.
Steps to complete a weekly schedule • Determine your different roles given your personal mission. • Identify one or two objectives for each role for a specific week. • Given the different objectives, write down the activities you must perform to achieve your objectives.
• Divide the activities into three categories, namely 1. weekly priorities 2. daily priorities and 3. daily appointments.
• Fill the different categories in their respective places on the weekly planner (schedule). Remember not to duplicate, i.e. an activity can be placed in only one of the three categories.
• Now identify which “saw sharpening” (Habit 7) activities you are going to plan for the week and write them down in the respective blocks.
• Now also schedule your Habit 7 activities in your daily appointments’ section. Explanation:
Weekly priorities Daily priorities
Those activities which you can do at any time during the week, but you can’t or don’t want to link them to a specific time or day, e.g. shopping.
These are activities that must take place on a specific day, but one again time does not play a role. Telephone calls are a good example.
Daily appointments These activities are definitely linked to a specific time. A meeting or a sports match are examples.
