3. The role of the educarer
1. Each educarer will be in charge and responsible for a specific area and/or activity. Example: the educarer that is responsible for the creative area will plan and present the creative activities for a week or a longer period.
2. She must observe the children in that area, write their reports concerning creative activities. 3. She must handle all the problems that occur in that area, etc. Te same will be applicable for the educarers in charge of the other areas. Some of the areas require, for example, less preparation and then one educarer can be responsible for two areas. An example is the book area and the educational area. One educarer can be responsible for the planning, etc. of these areas.
4. Te educarer in the creative area might need an assistant. Te children rotate from area to area. 5. Te organisation of this rotation must run smoothly and in the beginning it will be difficult for the children to get used to it. Tink about ideas how this rotation can be made easier.
6. Planning is very important and all the educarers will have to plan thoroughly how things will be done.
7. A meeting every week should be held to sort out problems and to try and improve in certain areas where problems have been experienced.
4. General
Whichever method is going to be used is not important, but it is important to keep the whole child in mind. Make sure that, in the planning and presentation of the activities, the whole child will be taken care of.
Te success of a programme depends largely on how well the educarers involved work together. Everybody has a share, a responsibility and an important part to play in the pre-school programme.
Each staff member should know and agree on what and when things happen each day. Everyone should agree on the rules for indoors and outdoors, otherwise the children and even the staff will get confused. It is necessary to try to work together as a team, because all the educarers in the programme have an influence on the children. To work as a team, each educarer should understand and agree to do her job. Each educarer should be quite clear about the conditions of service.
Tere are certain things that are more enjoyable than others and some people like to do certain things more than others. Perhaps it is possible to take turns, so that everybody can do something that they like.
