3.2.5 Sales promotion
Inventory or stock in a business is very necessary for obvious reasons. Being out of stock may mean that a potential customer will buy the item elsewhere. However, stock that is just lying there costs the business money, takes up space and ties up money. If you could sell it, you could use that money to buy other faster-selling items. Identifying slow-moving stock and turning it into cash must be done on a regular basis. For example, major retail clothing stores are well-known for their end-of-winter sales. Sales promotions can be used to turn slow-moving inventory into cash.
Suggestions for slow-moving inventory 1 Sale
Hold a sale. A “Sale” sign displayed in a shop window is a major customer draw card, provided it is a real sale.
2 Displays
Place the items elsewhere in your shop. It could be that your slow-moving products are just not visible enough. Or put a table on the pavement outside your business. It might catch the eye of a pedestrian passing by.
