Walk No. 4
Platboom/Gifkommetjie Main attractions Magnificent view Interesting flora Flotsam Kelp Dunes
Table Mountain National Park A park for all forever
This is a very pleasant walk, which will take you through areas of fynbos, coastal flora, marsh and dunes. The maritime debris washed up on the coast illustrates “down side” of being near a busy lane. Visible are large kelp beds.
Items of interest do sometimes come ashore and you may see blocks of rubber, believed to have been deck cargo on a vessel torpedoed near Port Elizabeth I World War 2. The only mildly strenuous section of the path is the Gifkommetjie steps. This is a route often used by fishermen and divers in their way to and from this rich stretch of coast. On this section you will also see a rock shelter.
